Who we are

Volunteer Driver Service (VDS) was originally founded in 2012 as a project of Banbury Citizens Advice to help people get to essential appointments when no reasonable transport options were available.

Since then, we’ve conducted thousands of journeys, making a real difference in people’s lives by providing a friendly, reliable service.

In April 2025, Citizens Advice decided to focus on the giving of early intervention advice, and VDS was closed. Three former employees of Citizens Advice got together to set up a Community Interest Company (CIC) so the valuable work of VDS could continue.

We have a team of around 200 volunteer drivers operating throughout Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and surrounding counties. We also operate in Solihull Borough and Uttoxeter.

Our service exists thanks to the generosity of the public, the incredible commitment of our volunteer drivers, as well as grant funding support.

If you are struggling to attend an essential appointment, Volunteer Driver Service may be able to help. Please call 0300 3030 125 and speak with one of our team, or use our online booking system [here]
